The premises of the castle are formed by two independent, relatively high, but generally,
rather small manors. Benedikt von Salhausen ordered the Upper Castle to be built between 1522
and 1524 and even after reconstruction, in 1543, it still kept its late Gothic character,
although the younger gables are already in the Renaissance style. Palaces of the Lower Castle,
which were built gradually after 1540 and then in 1578, are characteristic examples of Saxon
Renaissance in Bohemia.
The Upper castle, whose reconstruction ended in 1998, has, at the present, not been furnished.
In the Lower Castle the most attractive piece is the pretty and well equipped open hearth
kitchen. Residential rooms on the first floor represent the types of dwellings of feudal owners
in the earlier centuries.
