The structure of settlement in the territory of the present Czech Republic went through more than a thousand years of development and although this state belongs, in comparison with other European states, among the smaller countries, thanks to a number of preserved monuments, it also belongs among the most important ones. Due to its inhabitants ability to struggle through historical difficulties, so necessary for the survival of the state or nation next to more powerful neighbors, and also due to the fact that nobility settled in Bohemia, the church and other inhabitants devoted considerable efforts to preserve their ancestors' heritage.
The tourist season, in the Czech Republic, starts on the 1st of April and ends on the 31st of October. During the first and last months of the season Czech and Moravian castles are open mainly on weekends and state holidays only, other days they open only for groups with reservations. From the beginning of May until the end of September the castles and manors welcome their visitors six days a week. The one day they are closed is Monday or the day following a state holiday. The first tour usually starts at 9 a.m. and the last one at 4 p.m. There is a lunch break from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at these sights. Last July and September tours very often started as late as 5 p.m..
