An architectonic style called Baroque Gothic which has no parallel anywhere in Europe, rose in
Bohemia at the beginning of the 18th century as a result of modification of gothic elements to a
purely Baroque style. The funeral church of St. John from Nepomuk in Zelená Hora, near Žiár nad
Sázavou, was built in this style during 1719 - 1722. The building was constructed according to the
project of Jan Blažej Santini-Aichl (1677 - 1723), a Czech architect of Italian origin. The shape
of five pointed star, mutual overlapping of spatial objects, dynamics of the construction material
defying the weight of the walls, all this proves the extraordinary qualities of this architecture.
