Choustník (11 km southeast of Tábor)
The castle was built by Beneš from Choustník sometime after 1250. The second phase of the
construction of the castle came a century later under the barons from Rožmberk; the mighty walls of
Choustník then discouraged even the Hussites despite the fact that from their center, Tábor, it was
possible to walk to the castle in three hours. Since the 15th century the war events kept out of
southern Bohemia so that the importance of the castle declined and since the second half of the
following century it was not being maintained anymore. Its outer walls are mostly renewed today, in
lesser extent also the inner walls and the tower which offers a beautiful view over the countryside.
